Cantemus Children's Choir won two first places and a special award in Italy

The Gorizia International Choir Competition is no stranger to the several choirs of the Cantemus Choir of Nyíregyháza, as they have already returned home from the Italian city with a lot of great results under the leadership of Kossuth State Awarsd winning conductor Dénes Szabó, regular member of HAA.
It is no coincidence that the singing and music classroom of the Kodály Zoltán Elementary School in Nyíregyháza is called an "infectious class", since those who have spent a few years there have committed themselves to music and singing for life. All this is confirmed by the choirs and chamber choirs that developed from the Cantemus Children's Choir within the framework of the Kodály Zoltán Elementary School like a family tree: Cantemus Boys' Choir (1981), Pro Musica Girls' Choir (1986), Banchieri Vocal Ensemble (1988), Cantemus Mixed Choir (1998), Cantemus Youth Mixed Choir (2003).
Dénes Szabó, who is also an Artist of the Nation, has done a great job in the last half century in terms of education, art and, moreover, the country's image. At the Gorizia International Choir Competition held between 10 and 14 July 2025 the Cantemus Children's Choir won first place in two categories: the best choir in the Renaissance church music category and the best in the Romantic to the present day church music category. In addition to the two first places the team of Nyíregyháza also received a special award, for the best children's choir sound.
