Living Hungarian Architecture

On 25 September HAA's Architectural Section and the Károly Kós Association opened an exhibition at Vigadó to mark the 90th anniversary of the birth of architect Imre Makovecz, the honorary president of HAA. The exhibition, which is to be open until 9 November is to feature his colleagues, admirers, followers and students presenting their recent works.

HAA at Art Market Budapest

This year Art Market Budapest, the largest international fine arts fair in Central and Eastern Europe, was held for the fifteenth time between October 16 and 19. The event was held at a new location, the MTK Sportpark hall, community spaces and park, built on an area of ​​95 thousand square meters and meeting the technical needs of the 21st century. The event awaited its visitors and exhibitors from nearly twenty-five countries. At the current HAA presented itself for the first time with a large-scale contemporary exhibition spanning several generations, entitled RASZTER.

Connecting continents and eras

The Hungarian Museum of Architecture and Monument Protection Documentation Center has acquired objects of the world-famous Hungarian-American architect Marcel Breuer from private collections in the USA. The institution purchased five pieces of furniture from the Trust once used by Breuer in his Wellfleet cottage: an Isokon lounge chair made of plywood, two of his famous tubular steel chairs, one Wassily and one Cesca chair, as well as Breuer's porch table made of concrete elements and a stone slab along with a matching chair.

Photographer Imre Benkő passed away

On 15 October Kossuth as well as Béla Balázs Award winning photographer and regular member of HAA, Imre Benkő passed away at the age of 83. He was an indispensable and unmistakable figure in documentary photography, working for more than sixty years in Hungary and in many parts of the world. HAA regards his passing as losing one of its own.

Jesuit Set Designs in Rome at the exhibition of HAA

The exhibition is presenting the world of Baroque Jesuit theatre, the special encounter of faith, art and theatrical illusion through 17th-18th century engravings from the Jesuit set design book of Sopron. The exhibition, which can be viewed in the courtyard of the Falconieri Palace of the Hungarian Academy in Rome until 31 December, was organized by HAA. On 18 September at the opening of the exhibition actor Zoltán Rátóti, Vice-President of HAA gave a welcoming speech.
